This procedure involves taking radiographs (x-rays) of the hips and/or elbows. OFA radiographs are a very important diagnostic procedure in evaluating the possibility of future problems with hip dysplasia in a breeding program.
If you are a breeder having this procedure done to be sent to OFA and then registered with the AKC you will need to bring the patient’s AKC or UKC registration number and the pet needs a microchip or tattoo. X-rays cannot be sent to the OFA until the patient is at least 2 years of age, but we can do preliminary x-rays at any time. This procedure does require sedation. For this reason we have the pet dropped off in the morning and we will have a technician release him/her to you in the evening.
